Project description:

Glioblastomas (GBM) are aggressive brain tumors that almost invariably relapse despite multi-modal treatment. Invasive GBM cells are shielded from blood-borne therapeutics through a vascular barrier (the blood-tumor-barrier; BTB) and thereby escape clinical care. We investigate the cell biological processes promoting BTB formation and treatment options to improve the delivery of adjuvants into GBM. One example of our approach can be obtained from our recent publication in Cell Rep Med (2024; 5, 8: 101658). This work also reflects our ambition to enable CSC students to become lead authors in scientific publications and to engage in active cooperation with universities of the LMU-ChAN network. In the current project we will use established transgenic mouse strains for lineage-tracing and -manipulation of vascular and non-vascular cells building the BTB. We will explore the individual roles of these cell types in BTB development and their contribution to vascular tightness in order to provide new therapeutics for BTB modulation. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-motivated academic combining background knowledge in (molecular) cell biology with strong manual skills and experience in basic laboratory methodology (cell culture, PCR, flow cytometry).
